(1) Never Restarting your computer
Just shutting down your computer and never restarting it regularly can slow your computer down if you switch to the power options, which you can easily access by left-clicking the Start menu and selecting Power and choosing a restart instead Shutting down cleans your computer's memory gives your computer a restart after restarting with all available memory makes your computer run faster a good habit is to restart three times a week.
(2) Downloading Malicious files and programs
The internet is a great place full of information, but be very careful what you click, especially on dark looking ads that offer free content or have huge download buttons that can lead to websites that can infect your computer with malware Slowing it down because too many programs are running at the same time and using system resources can slow down your PC, so it is best to close the programs that you are not using.
(3) Running wanted Programs in Background- Startup programs
Another problem is that many of the programs you have installed run in the background when they start up, even though they are not open. To disable these programs from running at startup, right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager from the Start tab, here you can see all the programs that run when your computer starts, for those that do these are enabled for every program that you know you won't need when you start it.
(4) Not Using Security Software
There are many people out there who don't use security software because it can make your computer slower. This is a mistake. Malware infecting your system can have an even more negative impact and slow down your computer, along with other problems that Microsoft Defender should have in Windows be all you need for your peace of mind. Malwarebytes free is another one I use regularly because it allows for on-demand scanning and doesn't conflict with other security programs.
(5) Not Cleaning your Computer- Overheating
Failure to clean dirt and dust from your desktop or laptop case can prevent your computer from cooling properly. Overheating can cause thermal throttling, which slows down your computer. Compressed air canisters that aren't too expensive.
(6) Not Cleaning Temporary files- No more Free Disk space
When your main drive is running out of space, you will experience slowdowns from time to time. Delete and uninstall whatever you don't need to free up space and run the disk cleanup tool to delete and find your temporary files. Go to the search box and type disk clean up, select it, choose your primary drive which for most of you is drive c, then click OK, check the box next to each category you know about that you don't need them, and when you're done, click OK and then choose to Delete files from here on out just wait for it to finish.
(7) Failed to Update Windows- Not Fixing Bugs
While Windows updates may or may not have been going on most of the time for some users, if you fail to install Windows updates, you may miss out on troubleshooting for errors that keep the operating system running smoothly. There are several ways to get there. I go to the start menu at the bottom left and select Settings, then click on Update and Security Here you can check whether there is an update or whether one has already been downloaded and installed. You may need to restart your computer.
(8) Using Older versions of Programs and Apps- Missing Stability Updates of Programs and Apps
There are times when you think your PC is slow, but it is the program itself that is causing the problem. So if you have problems with a program, see if a newer version is available. Sometimes you can find out right from within the program if there is an update, or go to the site you originally got the program from to see if there is a newer version.
(9) Not Optimizing and Defragmenting Disk- Collecting Fragmented files
The following is for those of you who have hard drives. SSD folks don't have to worry about that over time, the hard drive can become fragmented resulting in slower loading times to fix this type of defragmentation in the search bar. When you have listed hard drives, choose Defragment and Optimize Drives, check the date they were last scanned if it has been a while, select the drive and click Optimize to make its work more convenient. Change settings Make sure the box next to Run on a schedule is checked and you can choose how often it will run. Your options are daily, weekly, and monthly.
(10) Not Cleaning Cache files- Collecting Corrupted Cache files in Memory
If your browser loads slower, it's not always because of your internet, while your browser cache helps web pages load faster, sometimes it gets corrupted, in Chrome at the top right, click the three vertical dots, go to more tools, and select clear browsing data. You have two tabs Basic and Advanced with Advanced If you are sure that images and files are cached, you can also delete other data here when you are ready. Click Clear Data in No Time, your cache will be cleared.
